Gallery Q Dundee welcomes the well known and loved Dundee artist Joe McIntyre for his final solo show in a commercial gallery. The exhibition shows the full variety of his work with scenes of Dundee, New York, Melbourne, Paris and more as well as figurative and still life studies.
Joe was born in Dundee in 1940. He left school at 15 and worked at a variety of jobs for 5 years. At 20 he started at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art where he was fortunate to have the gifted artists Alberto Morocco and James McIntosh Patrick as his tutors. He was the top student in his year, graduating in 1964. From 1969-1989 he was curator of the Orchar Art Gallery, Broughty Ferry. Joe joined the part time teaching staff at the Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art in Dundee in 1972 and retired in 2007 which means he has taught generations of Dundee artists. He has continued to paint prolifically since that time and has had regular solo shows at Gallery Q including one to celebrate his 80th birthday in 2020.
His work is held in the collections of the HM the late Queen, HRH the late Duke of Edinburgh and HRH the late Princess Margaret as well as at The Scottish Arts Council, The Fine Art Society, Pernod in London, JB Scotch Whiskey and The Lincoln Centre in New York, Dundee City Art Gallery and numerous private collections across the world.
