Sian MacQueen RSW
Sian MacQueen RSW (b.1973, Glasgow) is a Scottish artist based in Argyll. She studied at Glasgow School of Art, graduating in 1994 with a first-class honours degree in Fine Art. Sian works as a painter and sculptor. Architectural forms, sky, sea, landscape and the weathering of surfaces inspire her to create her many layered works.
Place and belonging are important themes in Sian’s work while, more recently, geometry has begun to play a larger role. Her paintings often use layers of acrylic and gesso. Her sculptures are fired ceramics. These works, made from modular block pieces, can appear caught between states of physical change, seemingly capable of both shifting and becalming.
Sian has exhibited in Scotland and the UK with many works in private collections. In 2007 she won the RGI Exhibition Award at the Royal Glasgow Institute Annual Open Exhibition. She works as a volunteer at the Tarbert Arts & Leisure Centre where she also spends time as a freelance artist for their Argyll wide arts education programme, funded by Creative Scotland and Young Start.
