Morag Muir was born in Glasgow in 1960. She studied Fine Art at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design, Dundee from 1978-1982.

She completed a year of postgraduate study in 1983, winning the John Milne Purvis Prize and the Major Travelling Scholarship, which financed further study in Italy.

Her paintings mainly reflect the studio environment, and her still-life work incorporates narratives that develop when characters and objects begin to populate the canvas. Windows, flowers, textiles, toys and ethnic bric-a-brac share ambiguous spaces. The finished paintings portray layers of her personal life interwoven with her surroundings and collected memorabilia.Morag Muir

Morag Muir was born in Glasgow in 1960. She studied at Duncan of Jordanstone Collage of Art and Design, 1978 – 1982, completing a Post Graduate degree in 1983, where she studied under eminent artists such as Alberto Morrocco, David McClure and Will McLean, winning the John Milne Purvis Prize, a major travelling scholarship to Italy.

Having tutored at various colleges, Morag focused on painting full-time in 2006 from her studio in Newport-on-Tay. Her paintings reflect the studio environment, where her still-life incorporates narratives that develops when objects and characters begin to populate the canvas. Windows, flowers, textiles, toys and ethnic bric-a-brac share ambiguous spaces. The finished paintings portray layers of her personal life interwoven with her surroundings and collected memorabilia.

Morag is one of Scotland’s most prolific and dedicated contemporary painters. Most recently she received the Small Paintings Award (RSW), the Adame Aware; the William Armour Award and the Art Hire Framing award (PAI). She was elected to the Royal Scottish Society for Painters in Watercolour in 2019. Her work is held in collections around the world and she exhibits throughout the UK.
