Frank To SGFA

Frank was born in Glasgow and studied at the University of Huddersfield and then Duncan of Jordanstone Art College here is Dundee. He has a studio in Glasgow. He won an enviable reputation for himself as a contemporary figurative painter, having established a loyal following, including a number of high profile buyers such as Star Trek legend, Patrick Stewart who now owns several of Frank’s paintings.

Always seeking new ways to express his art, Frank is having great success with gunpowder as a medium. In 2019 he was selected as one of only 2 British artists to take part in the Humanium Project to create art from the material collected from melted down, decommissioned illegal firearms known as Humanium. Frank is creating a new pigment from the material. The other British artist, Sir Tony Cragg, is using it to create sculptures.

Frank has exhibited alongside some of the greats of the Scottish and international art scene such as Peter Howson and Damien Hirst. His work has also featured in several national art fairs, art shows in Bath, Harrogate, London, Aberdeen, Dundee, Edinburgh and Glasgow and in the collection of Dundee University. In 2021 he was elected an Associate of the Society of Graphic Fine Art.
