John Paul Raine
John Paul Raine was born in 1948. He dropped out of Leeds School of Art in 1967 and after many interesting life experiences enrolled at the age of 38 as a mature student at Gray’s School of Art in Aberdeen. He lectured in painting and drawing for two years at Aberdeen College, and then on an ad hoc basis in the life drawing class at Gray’s. Raine has recently retired from ten years teaching art at a Folk High School in Denmark and is now enjoying a very productive period of painting at his home on Deeside, in Scotland.
Raine paints realist still life, which always includes flowers. Many of his paintings include a teapot, a symbol for him of home, of friendship and of British eccentricity. He exhibits regularly throughout Scotland, and his work is held in public and private collections both here and abroad.
