Helga Chart RSW RWS

Edinburgh based artist Helga Chart studied at Edinburgh College of Art. This was followed by 12 years teaching in Edinburgh schools and another 14 years lecturing in Art & Design at Edinburgh Telford College. Since then she has focused on her own projects and artworks along with some guest lecturing at Edinburgh University, the Embroiderers’ Guild and the City Art Centre, Edinburgh.

Helga frequently shows her work with the Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolour in Edinburgh as well as the Royal Watercolour Society in London amongst many other galleries. She has won awards from these Societies and Visual Arts Scotland. She has been Vice-President of both the RSW and the VAS in the past. Her work is held in public and private collection and is widely collected.

“I work quickly and with immediacy. That is not to say that pictures are conceived speedily. In most cases my solutions are arrived at after months, if not years of consideration and dry runs. I use watercolour along with ink, resins and foils. I hope for work that intrigues and attracts the viewer. My approach to painting is in a spirit of adventure and exploration and I was encouraged in this by my tutors at Edinburgh College of Art, amongst whom were Sir Robin Philpson, David Michie and Robert Callander.”
