Steve Carnegie
Steve followed in his father’s footsteps, choosing joinery as his profession on leaving school He worked alongside his dad who taught him all he knew, passing on his expertise in woodworking using traditional tools and techniques and instilling his work ethos, attention to detail and pursuit of perfection in all he did.
Carving has been a natural progression, allowing Steve to express his creativity in a different way.
His woodwork designs are brought to life in his Angus based workshop. Everyday observations and experiences as well as memorable discoveries on travels at home and abroad provide the inspiration for his work. Nature, landscapes, architecture, and art as well as historical landmarks and relics all influence his design ideas. The Angus area itself is recognised as being one of the key centres of Pictish life in the first millennium and many of his creations are inspired by the ancient standing stones and artefacts found there.
Steve’s mixed media designs are crafted using a variety of hardwoods and stained glass, with preference give to locally sourced materials where possible. His work is a mixture of free standing and wall hung pieces.
