George Gilbert RSW

George GilbertGeorge Gilbert RSW

The fishing village of St. Monans has been painted by many Scottish artists including Bessie McNicol, James McBey & W.G. Gillies.

I was unaware of this when I first visited St.Monans in 1965. The village & East Neuk would become the source for most of my work for the next three decades.

Basically I am interested in the way light animates the objects in my studio & the harbours & landscape of this small corner where I have lived for over thirty years.

Biography
Trained at Glasgow School of Art 1957-61 under William Armour & David Donaldson. Post graduate study 1962 (Highly commended).

Taught in schools in Aberdeenshire, Glasgow & Fife 1963-88; left teaching in 1989 to paint full time. With wife Lesley set up the Courtyard Gallery (Crail) 1993-2001.

I have exhibited widely throughout the UK & USA in many group & joint shows including the Cleveland Drawing Biennale. The Sunday Times water-colour competition & the RSW summer open.
