My name is Una Monteith and I live and work in Edinburgh. I have a studio in my garden at the foot of the Pentland hills and have been making pieces of decorative art for about twelve years now.
Wood and metal clocks ……. Pendulum, Carriage, Foot and Hanging Clocks …..
My work combines wood, metal and ceramic, which provides a functional background for the exploration of unpredictable and exciting painterly effects. Using and layering combinations of wall papers, spray paints, water, tissue papers, lace, flowers and leaves, enamel paints and lots of other things …. unique background surfaces and decorative designs are created.
Ceramic Clocks …..
The Pendulum Clocks have always contained a ceramic figure. Eventually I came round to making entirely ceramic clocks. I enjoy creating the finishes on the wood and metal clocks and found that I could create similar styles using many of the same materials but on the clay. I hand build and fire to Stoneware at 1260 degrees centigrade and use various glazes and oxides to create the final finish. The work is not suitable for outdoor display.
Both ranges are particularly inspired by old wall papers found in old houses or in the bottom of drawers and kists.
